Theatre MSU students take stage Sept. 27, 30 with āThe Hobbitā

STARKVILLE, Miss.āĀé¶¹“«Ć½ Stateās theatrical program begins its 2018-19 lineup of productions this week with J.R.R. Tolkienās āThe Hobbit.ā
Theatre MSU will give public performances Thursday [Sept. 27] at 7 p.m. and Sunday [Sept. 30] at 2 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater.
Tickets are available at the box office one hour prior to each show and are $12 for the general public, $7 for MSU students and children 12 years of age and under. Tickets also are available for advance purchase online at .
Tim Matheny, MSU assistant professor of theatre, is directing the performances of Edward Mastās adaptation of the Tolkien classic. The show features various special effects and involves a cast and crew of 25 MSU students working together to bring the world of āThe Hobbitā to the stage.
āMany people will have read the novel or watched the films,ā Matheny said. āThis is a new way for fans to experience Tolkienās story of adventure.ā
Theatre MSU also is presenting matinees for elementary students at local schools. Part of MSUās Department of Communication, Theatre MSU has worked with area teachers to provide complementary educational materials.
